AUTUMNAL FOOD // STEEL CUT OATMEAL

When autumn comes, our eating changes too, and although the sun is still glittering in the sky, there's a coolness in the air that is surprisingly welcome. I have a sudden desire for food that feels comforting, such as velvety oatmeal, like a soft, cashmere blanket that warms the soul. I've a fondness for proper steel cut oats too, soaked over night and cooked slowly with a little coconut oil and almond butter for extra nourishment. Autumnal food. It just feels right. ūüćā What are you craving at the moment? What kind of meals are gracing your table?

BANANA OAT HOT CAKES

Eleanor Ozich BREAKFAST SWEET DELIGHTS

BANANA OAT HOT CAKES

My family are crazy about these hot cakes, which rarely make it past the kitchen stovetop. They literally stand right by the stove, watching over my shoulder as I flip the hot cakes in the pan. As soon as they have cooled just enough to handle, they are gone within minutes, a true family favourite for years to come, I am sure! 2 large bananas, roughly chopped4 free-range eggs1/2 cup organic rolled oats Add all the ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth. COMMONSENSE ORGANICS & MANGO BIRCHER RECIPE

Growing food that is good for you and good for the Earth, it's just commonsense, really. This simple idea is the essence of the Commonsense Organics brand, and something I believe in wholeheartedly. The Commonsense family now owns six stores in New Zealand, five in Wellington and the latest in Mt Eden, Auckland, each selling a brilliant range of organic, fair trade and environmentally friendly products. Scroll down to see some photos of our typical weekend shop (with my older two sneakily hiding chocolate in the trolley, and flying paper planes in the isles, sorry customers! kids these days eh). I've also shared a scrumptious recipe...

HONEY CARAMELIZED ONION TARTINE WITH CR√ąME FRAICHE

You may have noticed I have a deep love for honey, and use it in many of my recipes. Naturally, I was incredibly excited when Lumojo¬†asked if I would be their ambassador for this years Taste Of Auckland¬†event. Over the coming weeks, I will be conjuring up plenty of honey-inspired goodness in the kitchen, and today, I share my first recipe using their beautiful beechwood honeydew honey.¬†Enjoy, and have a lovely weekend! HONEY CARAMELIZED ONION TARTINE WITH CR√ąME FRAICHE The idea of marrying sweet, caramelized onions with tangy cr√®me fraiche is quite perfect as a topping for toast.¬† Small, petite...

PLEASINGLY SIMPLE MUFFINS

Eleanor Ozich BREAKFAST SWEET DELIGHTS WHOLESOME BAKING

PLEASINGLY SIMPLE MUFFINS

Here's a pleasingly simple muffin recipe that is quite forgiving. I find the muffins are exceptionally delicious with boysenberries or raspberries, their tart vibrant juice seeping in to the soft, sweet crumb. All you need is a handful of simple ingredients, and a little inspiration of what you might like to add. Combine the following in a large mixing bowl, 2 large eggs, 1/2 cup rice malt syrup or runny honey, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 cup natural yoghurt or coconut cream, 1/4 cup melted butter or coconut oil. Mix using a wooden spoon, then gently sift in 2 cups spelt flour, 2...
